The Northview Guidance Department values and appreciates the importance of the student and parent/guardian voice. Our goal is to give our students the necessary tools to make informed decisions to ensure success in secondary school. Guidance counsellors are always available to assist students. Students can start booking online appointments with their guidance counsellor beginning on September 21, 2020.
DUE TO COVID-19There will be no walk-in appointments. Guidance Counsellors will be contacting students who have course conflicts and students who have handed in non-TDSB Summer School Report cards. Students who would like to discuss Quad 2, 3 and 4 courses can schedule an on-line appointment with their guidance counsellor starting the week of September 21st. Instructions on how to book appointments will be found in the Guidance Google Classrooms on September 18.
STUDENT TIMETABLES: Guidance counsellors are working on finalizing Quad 1 timetables and registering students from August 31 to September 18. It is important that students/parents/guardians check their emails and answer calls from Northview as Guidance counsellors may need to contact you.
** There will be no course change requests for Quad 1 courses**
At this time, course changes will ONLYbe made for students who: - are missing a pre-requisite or compulsory course, - require course changes based on summer school results or, -for students who have major timetable scheduling issues
Students who require timetable changes based on the conditions above will be contacted by their guidance counsellor via their TDSB email.
NON-TDSB SUMMER SCHOOL and VOLUNTEER HOURS: If students have completed a summer school coursewith another School Board, e.g. the Toronto Catholic District School Board or a private school, it is important that they email a copy of their report card to their guidance counsellor as soon as possible AND hand in a hard copy of the report card to the GUIDANCE DROP BOX in the MAIN OFFICE on their first day of school. Students can also drop off their volunteer hour sheet in the GUIDANCE DROP BOX, as well.
ON-LINE GUIDANCE APPOINTMENTS: Students who would like to discuss their Quads 2, 3 or 4 courses and their post-secondary pathways and required courses, will have to book an on-line appointment. Instructions on how to book On-line guidance appointments will be made available in the guidance google classrooms on September 18. Students can start booking appointments starting on September 18, for the week of September 21. Appointment slots will be available on a weekly basis.
GUIDANCE GOOGLE CLASSROOM SIGN UP: All students need to sign up for the Google classroom that applies to them, junior (grades 9 and 10) or senior (grades 11 and 12). Guidance will be posting important messages throughout the school year. Google classroom codes will be sent out to students and parents on Tuesday September 15. They will also be posted outside the guidance office and will be posted in teachers' on-line classrooms.
